The One Where Remote Work Means Welfare
Remote work is not welfare. Yet after the COVID-19 era, many junior workers—especially in IT—have started to see it as a kind of perk or entitlement.
The truth is, in many cases, remote work is not written into contracts. It is not automatically guaranteed.
Now that many companies are shifting back toward on-site work, conflicts are breaking out between employees and business leaders. To me, this feels misguided.
The decision to work remotely or on-site is ultimately a business decision. It doesn’t require employee approval, nor should it be treated as a comfort measure for workers.
It is, at its core, a decision driven by money and business needs.
