There was an opportunity to give a presentation at the company offsite. I felt kind of relieved after the Q&A sessions and the after-party. People were more interested in the project I’m leading than I ever expected.

I’m a programming languages (PL) enthusiast and have always wanted coworkers who share the interest. I’ve sometimes wanted to recommend friends to the company, but I always hesitated—maybe because I felt overwhelmed. It felt wrong to bring someone in just because I suggested it, rather than them coming for the job itself.

But after the presentation, I felt a bit more at ease. Even people without domain knowledge seemed inspired. I gained a little confidence to keep pushing forward with the project—and maybe be a bit more aggressive about recruiting someone.
